"Kiteboat Project" существует в той или иной форме с 1997 года, когда Дон Монтегю впервые начал применять Кайты для лодок. Между 1997 и 2006, Дон работал с командой на Гавайях с целью применения воздушных змеев для использования с каноэ, серфингомт и небольшими катамаранами.
